72-Hour Kit Class

Once again, the 72 hour kit class turned out great. We tried some more foods, some the same and some different. We made 10 minute Brown Rice again on the Sterno Stove & topped it with Salmon from a mylar pouch. This time we tried a Beef Enchilada in Sauce MRE using an MRE heater & freeze dried Chicken Teriyaki with Rice from Mountain House. We also tried some Apricot & Raspberry calorie bars, some kind of freeze dried pear MRE, MRE dessert Marble Pound Cake, homemade Granola, and Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies. Lots of yummy foods to try. For those of you who didn't come you missed out!! If you are interested in being on the email list for future classes let us know. Our next classes will be on Thursday April 3rd @ 10am & Friday April 11th @ 7pm. We are currently planning on doing a gardening class. We will post more information about the next class next week.

72Hour Kit Class

Today's class was great!! We talked about 72hour kits. Why to store them, where to store them and what to store in them. There were displays of a Family 72 Hour Kit as well as a Single Person 72 hour kit. There were also a few items from a child's 72 hour kit. Lots of ideas. We went over the contents of the Family Kit and talked about the items in it, as well as items that are good for children's kits. There was also a display of different kinds of foods that would be great for a 72hour kit. We made 10 minute Brown Rice on the Sterno Stove & topped it with Salmon from a mylar pouch, Cheese Tortellini using an MRE heater & Macaroni and Cheese from Mountain House. We also tried some Apricot & Raspberry calorie bars, MRE dessert Spice Pound Cake, homemade Granola, and Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies. The granola & cookies were made using items from food storage. We also checked out the Esbit Stove. There were several handouts available. One was a 72hour kit list, 2 handouts with 3 recipes on each one, including the granola & cookies. All is Safely Gathered in, both Family Finances and Family Home Storage, One for the Money: Guide to Family Finances and an Emergency Preparedness Survey to see where you are currently at. It was a great class and we are looking forward to teaching it again in a week! If you missed out on this one you can still attend the next one on Friday March 14th @ 7pm.
